SUMMARY:Jan 6th @CoV
DESCRIPTION:Where Voice Meets Community!\nWelcome to The Fish and Bear Network\, a movement that’s bringing back the oldest form of human connection: storytelling in its purest\, most spontaneous form.  \nWhat we’re about\nIt’s time to truly connect again in the way that only sitting in real life\, with real people\, telling real-life stories can. \nStorytelling is the capability that we have used to connect with each other and create this modern world. And yet somehow\, especially on social media\, we have neutered storytelling into story-selling and mostly share opinions rather than real-life experiences. \nOur events are simple\, timed\, unprepared story prompts that help everyone who listens connect to our unique and yet relatable experiences. Often\, the stories told are intensely funny\, sometimes emotional\, but always interesting. \nI call them games rather than exercises because they are fun and often frivolous\, but there’s no competition and no one loses – except those who don’t attend! 😀 \nThe Evening\n\n\n\nArrive before the start at the Parlor Room\, Church of the Valley.  We have a sweet room and a lovely courtyard for our use\, so please arrive on time so that we can start promptly at 7 pm. The circle of storytellers is limited so that the exercise rounds don’t take too long. So if you are keen to be a part of the storytelling\, then you should try to arrive early. It would be disruptive to make changes to the circle\, so if you plan to leave early or arrive late\, please attend as a listener. \n\n\n\n\nLet the Games begin. We will start with a couple of simple story rounds for the storytellers. The first is almost always ‘The Story of your name’ because everyone is the world’s expert in living their life with their name. As general rule\, we will have up to 12 storytellers\, and everyone else will get to be listeners. Our exercises and games aren’t about performance or entertainment\, as the truth sounds different\, so everyone can be a storyteller. \nBreak! We host these events to encourage connection and community\, so this break is there to keep it light and cheerful. So stretch your legs or stand in line for the 🚽 at the other side of the courtyard. \n\n\n\n\nPart Two. Now that we all know this evening’s storytellers\, it is time to play a couple more story games to complete the structured part of the event. \n\n\n\n\nFreedom! All structure is over! Feel free to chat for a bit while we clear up and clear out. As it is a community church space\, we will need to ensure that we leave the space as we found it. \nAlcohol and smoking of any type are prohibited at this location.

SUMMARY:Lynn's Book Launch
DESCRIPTION:Volume 3 is out now\, and that means we want to celebrate! \nIt seems appropriate to launch the latest “Notes From The Valley” book at the Valley Hive. This is where Mark learned to keep bees and where we have hosted some of our Fish & Bear events. \nYou can get the book in your preferred format\, including audiobook\, here. We will have a limited number of books for signing\, but if you’ve already got one\, then bring it with you\, and Lynn will be happy to scrawl something in it. \nHere is a blurb about the book\, because let’s face it\, we suck at telling people about it. \nYour Sunday morning ritual just got better. \nWelcome to the third volume of Lynn Ferguson’s beloved newsletter-turned-book series\, where the everyday magic of Los Angeles living meets razor-sharp wit and profound humanity. Part love letter to LA\, part meditation on what it means to be human\, these essays illuminate the beautiful absurdity of life with warmth\, wisdom\, and unmistakable Scottish charm. \nFerguson has a rare gift: she can transform a small domestic detail into a life lesson\, find comedy in the cosmic\, and remind us that our shared flaws and quirks are what make us gloriously human. Whether she’s observing the peculiarities of Valley life\, reflecting on the dreams that brought us to California\, or celebrating the connections that sustain us\, her voice feels like a wise\, funny friend sharing secrets over coffee. \nIn this collection\, you’ll discover: \n\nHeartwarming stories that celebrate the vagabond dreamers who call LA home\nObservations that swing from hilarious to deeply moving\, often in the same breath\nA compassionate eye that finds value in every human connection\nWriting that reaffirms empathy as our way forward through this beautiful\, silly mess\n\nPerfect for fans of personal essays\, Los Angeles literature\, and anyone who believes that paying attention to life’s small moments reveals everything that matters. \nPraise for Lynn Ferguson’s Notes From The Valley: \n“Like a warm sweater knit by a mad genius\, Lynn’s wit and humanity unfailingly reaffirm that empathy is our only way out of this silly mess.”\n— Damian Kindler\, Creator of “Sanctuary” and “October Faction” \n“These stories are funny\, poignant and emotional in equal measure. Heartwarming and unputdownable!”\n— Karen Koren\, Managing and Artistic Director\, Gilded Balloon \n“Lynn writes like she thinks\, and like she lives – with a sense of joy\, and a feel for the deliciously absurd.”\n— Alfred Molina\, Actor \nMake Notes From The Valley Volume 3 your new Sunday morning tradition \n  \nIf you didn’t already know about Lynn’s weekly newsletter\, all you need to know is that you can read it at lynnfergy.com
